Please check your email for message regarding changing into uniforms at fields. In case you didn't get it, Dave McKay, President of Yawkey League, has advised us that neighbors, particularly in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Brighton, are fed up with players and umpires dressing in public and will be calling the police if they see any more of it. Please respect the neighbors and dress before you get to the ball field. You might also consider getting the Official's Locker Room available at GerryDavis.com.
The MIAA has asked us as officials to perform additional duties such as the handshake rule. In an effort to make umpiring the game of baseball more efficient, The MBUA has passed a vote to establish a pre-game conference procedure when umpiring interscholastic contests at any level. The following specific points should be covered:
- Note to both coaches that this an MIAA event and that all applicable rules apply.
- Identify the site manager.
- Ask each coach to verify that all equipment meet the necessary playing rules and safety standards.
- Remind the coaches that all base coaches, including adults, need to wear helmets when coaching the bases. As a matter of safety, please tell both coaches that all non-playing personnel remain in the dugout or on the bench.
- And finally review the ground rules for the field.
